- Witness states lone vehicle crash due to driver’s excessive speed, somersaulted
- Victims taken to Idera Hospital in Sagamu; deceased stored in same hospital’s morgue
Two individuals have been tragically pronounced deceased, and an additional three individuals have sustained varying degrees of injuries following a distressing incident involving a Mazda bus along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway this past Wednesday.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the official representative of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), officially confirmed the distressing occurrence to reporters stationed in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi elaborated that the unfortunate incident transpired at precisely 4:05 p.m., just opposite the Conoil filling station, subsequent to the expressway’s interchange. The primary cause attributed to this unfortunate event was determined to be excessive speeding.
The Mazda bus, identified by the license plate LGB 739 XA, was being operated by a driver who tragically lost control, resulting in a somersault into a roadside ditch along the expressway.
The spokesperson for TRACE underscored that a total of 17 passengers were onboard the bus during the incident. Regrettably, three individuals sustained injuries, while a devastating loss was experienced as two individuals lost their lives.
According to a witness account, the crash involved a lone vehicle, but due to the driver’s excessive speed, it resulted in the commercial bus losing control and somersaulting into a ditch.
“Two passengers died on the spot, a male and a female, while three others were injured, a male and two female, while the 12 other passengers escaped unhurt,” he said.
Mr Akinbiyi added that the injured victims were taken to Idera Hospital in Sagamu while the deceased’s corpses were deposited at the morgue of same hospital.
He charged motorists to eschew excessive speeding, dangerous driving and also adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations.
