Putting Perfume in Your Belly Button Is the Fragrance Hack You Never Knew You Needed

1

You’ve heard before that targeting your “pulse points” is the best way to make your favorite fragrance last — and that’s why most of us spritz perfume on our necks and wrists every morning. Body heat radiates from those places were you can feel your heartbeat (read: where your veins are closer to the skin), and this heat intensifies the scent of your perfume. Smart ’n’ simple.

Even still, though, we’ve found that our signature scents can fade by the day’s end. We’d nearly given up on smelling sweet all day long until we recently learned there’s one major spot that we’ve been missing: our belly buttons!

It sounds strange, but spraying your belly button with perfume is a hack that experts approve and celebs like actress Liv Tyler and model Adriana Lima swear by, according to the Huffington Post. Why does it work? Well, it comes down to the same principle as your pulse points: “Any area on your body that radiates heat will enhance a scent, and your belly button does just that,” Steven Claisse, senior perfumer at Takasago, told SELF.

So, there you have it: When spraying your neck and wrists just isn’t enough, putting a little perfume on your belly (and other warm places, like the inside of your elbows and the back of your knees) should do the trick. Now get spritzing!
