There seems to be tension in the Nigeria’s camp ahead of the 2018 World Cup over a rumoured stand-off between captain John Obi Mikel and his deputy Ogenyi Onazi.
Stories about a rift The bone of contention is yet to be ascertained, but it is believed the issue is being kept under wraps, so as not to create negativity around the team.
However, in an chat with OwnGoalNigeria , a member of the team who pleaded anonymity, insisted everything was fine.
“First of all there’s no truth in the story. Mikel doesn’t have any issue with Onazi. How is that even possible?
“Mikel is our leader both on and off the pitch. If at all anything happened between them it was the usual match tension. Nothing more. Talking about them not been on speaking terms, Mikel hardly talks.
“Skippo (Mikel) is very quiet and reserved, so you can’t say he has any rift with someone base on that. Onazi is outspoken but even at that, he can’t speak rudely to the captain. People are trying to whip up division where there’s none,” he said.
