The award will be presented to the recipient at a ceremony this Saturday at The Montcalm hotel, London in the United Kingdom as parts of activities marking the 2nd Anniversary of TheNigerian News based in London.
According to a letter signed by Engr. David Onmeje, Managing Director of TheNigerian, Engr Maihaja was selected amongst several nominees as a result of his sterling performance at NEMA as well as the reforms he brought into the establishment upon appointment.
The letter stated that “Engr. Maihaja was nominated based on empirical findings by a team of seasoned researchers, who undertook a study of shortlisted agencies using set benchmarks to access the performances of various Chief Executive Officers with a view to establishing those that best delivered governance that positively impacted the lives of citizens”.
According the notification of award letter, the selection of the NEMA boss took into consideration many issues including the creation of an enabling environment for citizens to recover from either man-made disasters or self -inflicted calamities like flood, insurgency and communal clashes that have ravaged the country and her citizens in recent times.
Extolling further the qualities that justified the award, the letter stated that his outstanding efforts in addressing the humanitarian issues across the country and respect for the dignity of mankind coupled with the transparent accomplishments of the agency’s boss, deemed him worthy for the prestigious award.
Other recipients who will be decorated at the event are His Excellency, Rt. Hon Simon Lalong, Executive Governor of Plateau State, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff and Professor Mohammed Sani Hassan, Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of NASENI and a host of other Nigerians at home and in the diaspora
