When talking about fabulous Nigerian women, Njideka Crosby, easily tops the list. The late daughter of Dora Akunyili has made history after selling a painting of hers for a whooping sum of N1.2 billion.
Interestingly, 35-year-old Njideka recently won a MacArthur Genius Grant which set her N225 million richer. However, fortune wasn’t done with her and smiled more when her Bush Babies painting was estimated to be sold for N289 million by Sotheby’s but surprisingly sold for N1.2 billion.
Reports reveal that the Bush Babies artwork was sold during an auction at the Christie’s in London, United Kingdom and it’s sale price set a new auction record. Unbelievably, in 2016, Crosby still sold her paintings for N1 million and now, the young artist is setting records.

It was reported that at least 20 public museums are on a waiting list for works which Njideka hasn’t even painted yet. there’s no doubt that the artist is going to make history with the works of her hands.
Akunyili’s art “negotiates the cultural terrain between her adopted home in America and her native Nigeria, creating collage and photo transfer-based paintings that expose the challenges of occupying these two worlds.”
Njidika hails from Enugu and is one of the six children of late Dora Akunyili. Late Dora was the director general of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control of Nigeria.
