Viral photo of a bottle of groundnut was earlier shared that which was being sold for N3000 in the US. The photo sparked a lot of interest on social media because most Nigerians consider groundnut cheap and easily accessible.
However, it appears to be a major business stream for some Nigerians who reside abroad. Just recently, a Twitter user identified as JeSuisNaija revealed that his bank account has swollen over N1 million more since he started selling groundnut in the foreign city where he resides.
He stated that his resource is an elderly woman who he met in March 2018 and promised that he will help with selling her products. All he does is packs several jumbo-sized groundnuts every time he is travelling and sells each for about N2000. he is now made over N1 million since he began selling.
I met this mama who sells this jumbo size peanuts, called Auchi groundnut in March. I told her i’d help her sell up to 500k before end of 2018. Each time I’m travelling, i collect as much as i can and sell a bottle which she sells at N500 at 2K. I’ve sold N1,140,000 as of today. pic.twitter.com/M5JB1dFgW3

Interestingly, groundnut is mainly grown in northern states of Nigeria such as Kaduna, Taraba, Kano, Borno, Bauchi and Adamawa. It is mostly consumed as a snack and also used in making oil for cooking.
It is obvious it’s a brilliant business idea and a good source of revenue for the country if it ever started exporting nuts.
