A teenage boy who worked as a street hawker and was imprisoned for 2 years over a crime he didn’t commit, has finally regained freedom in Delta State.
According to reports, the 17-year-old hawker identified as John Ogbonna was falsely accused of armed robbery and remanded in Ogwashi Uku prison in Delta state.
After thorough investigation by Behind Bars Initiative (BBI), it was learnt that the young man was innocent of the charges labelled against him by the Delta state police command.
It was gathered the boy had a misunderstanding with a motorist while he was selling wrist watches along Okpanam road in Asaba and the man reportedly used SARS to lock him up.
John celebrated his release with the BBI team shortly after regaining freedom.
