The police in the Eastern Region of Ghana are on the search for a 20-year-old Junior High School (JHS) student, Georgina Ama Amenyo, from the town of Akim Anamase.
According to reports available to us, Amenyo, prior to her going missing was last seen with her 19-year-old boyfriend, Joseph Prah. Classfmonline.com reports that Amenyo had spent sometime with Prah after leaving home on January 12, 2019. However, her family’s quest to find her has so far proven futile. The 20-year-old JHS student allegedly snuck out of home. Later, a cover cloth and a pair of shoes belonging to her were found in her boyfriend’s room.
Amenyo’s boyfriend has so far been arrested, questioned but allowed to leave on bail by the police. The fears surrounding this currently missing young woman plays in the context of recent kidnappings that Ghana has been rocked by. The Western Region of Ghana and Sekondi-Takoradi specifically has had reports of kidnappings over the last few months. Between August of 2018 and January 2019, reports have been made of about five kidnappings involving five young women.
Earlier, women in Takoradi in the Western Region held a mass vigil on the night of Sunday, February 4, 2019, for the young women who had been kidnapped. Three girls, namely Priscilla Blessing Bentum, Ruth Love Quayson and Priscilla Koranchie, have been kidnapped in Takoradi within the last five months.
