In Ghana, 10-year-old Moses is not different. The primary three pupil has already identified what he wants to do in future and is working towards it. Moses aims to become a mechanical engineer and produce automobiles, and he is currently working with his father as a mechanic or what we locally call fitter.

At 10, he already knows how to repair cars, as he has worked in his father’s workshop for the last two years as an apprentice. A documentary by GHOne TV captures the inspiring story of Moses, who despite working as a child mechanic also takes school very seriously. “Moses comes to work with me when school is on break. If he’s still interested in this business when he’s much older, I’ll work with him.

This is a lucrative venture,” his father says. Moses is currently a pupil of the La Anglican B Primary School and, his seriousness with school impresses his teachers. His class teacher believes it is good that he has a clear focus, and insists Moses can only get better when he gets higher education in the field of mechanical engineering.

“It’s a good job but you can’t forgo education because there are some tools you have to know their names and there are some certificates that you have to get,” the teacher said. “This is because as time goes on, if you are not educated, people will not bring their cars for you to repair for them. But he’s doing well and he’s always in school,” the teacher added. This is quite impressive and commendable.
