The deceased, identified as Asimiu Abioidun, Crimepuzzle gathered, paid his routine visitation to the 45-year-old suspect, Aderonke Akindele, at her House No 1, Asalu Compound in Abeokuta, the Ogun capital, with no slightest inkling that death was lurking.
He was said to have arrived Aderonke’s abode late on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, only to give up the ghost that night.
Worried by the ugly development, Aderonke, it was learnt, stealthily moved the corpse out of the house and dumped it in a nearby bush, unknown to her that someone within the neighborhood witnessed the whole scenario.
However, a complaint was lodged at Oke-Itoku Police Division by one Makinde Ishola, who hinted the operatives of the development following which, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Olatoye Kotonu, led his men to the scene and arrested the suspect, as well as evacuating the corpse to the mortuary for autopsy.
The suspect, on interrogation, according to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, “the suspect claimed that the deceased was her long time lover, who used to pass nights with her but, on that fateful day, he came as usual, and suddenly developed a strange illness, adding that before she could call for help, the man had given up the ghost”.
She further stated that she resorted to dumping the corpse in the bush out of fear.
Oyeyemi stated that efforts had been made by the police to contact the bereaved family for proper identification, even as the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu had directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) to take over the case for proper investigation and possible prosecution of the suspect.
