Its no longer news that Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lost the Kwara Central Senatorial District election to Ibrahim Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While many are still in shock about the result, let’s tell you about the winner, Ibrahim Oloriegbe who is a medical graduate of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria who has had over 30 years experience in both private and public sector as a medical professional, Politician and an Humanitarian.
He was once a majority leader at the Kwara state house of assembly between 1999 – 2003. He contested for the senate under ACN in 2011 against Saraki who was the incumbent governor then and some suggest he really won the election, however the seat was handed to Saraki at the court of appeal against the wishes of many Kwarans.
Ever since, Dr Oloriegbe remains one of the few men standing against the reign and style of Saraki regime in Kwara. A breakdown of the results of the elections conducted revealed that the Senator-elect defeated the Senate President in all four local government areas in Kwara Central senatorial district. They are Asa, Ilorin South, Ilorin West, and Ilorin East LGAs.
The Returning Officer, Professor Olawale Olatunbosun, announced this on Sunday shortly after collating the results of the election in the zone. According to him, Oloriegbe polled a total of 123,808 votes to defeat Senator Saraki of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 68,994 votes.
