A man was filmed desperately clinging to the door of his car as a thief who posed as a buyer sped away with his car. Joseph Cox, 20, was showing his white VW Golf to a man he thought was a prospective buyer on Saturday. But as the man got behind the wheel, he sped off with it.
Security cameras outside Joseph’s home caught him grappling to hold on to the car after the man sat in the front driver’s seat, closed the door, and immediately sped off. The car boot and passenger door were still open when the man sped away, almost dragging Joseph under the wheels.
The car thief was white and described as in his 40s with a London accent, he was wearing glasses and a beige turtle neck.
Fortunately for Joseph, the car was found dumped outside a home not too far from where Joseph lives in New Barnet, London. Police recovered the car but so far no arrests have been made.
Joseph posted the video on Facebook and wrote:
Be warned, some people do not care. Today someone came to view my golf to buy it and viciously stole it from me.
Narrowly avoided serious injury. I have the cctv from my house, dash cam from the car and luckily one good friend who noticed the car had been dumped outside his house.
The chances of finding this car were minimal but thank god I found it and I am safe.
Please be aware that anytime anywhere people will do whatever it takes to steal from you.
