A new age classification has been released by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
This was announced by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, at the launch of the Revised National Youth Policy programme which held in Akure, Ondo state.
Dalung announced that the age bracket for the classification of youth in Nigeria has been reviewed downward from 18 – 35 years to 15 – 29 years.
The minister, in the 2019 Policy Foreword, pointed out that the rationale behind the downward review of the age classification was to allow youths (and not adults masquerading as youth) benefit from federal government intervention programmes.
The United Nations defines ‘youth’ as persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years.
