Governor Yahaya Bello has assured Kogi state people of a peaceful governorship election process – The governor expressed confidence in the coming election – Bello thanked the people for supporting President Buhari’s re-election bid The governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, has expressed confidence in winning the state governorship election. According to The Nation, the governor spoke at the Kebbi governors lodge in the Asokoro area of Abuja on Sunday, June 9.
The governor sent a message to Senator Dino Melaye saying he must be ready to pass through the eye of the needle to challenge him for the seat. Bello assured residents of the state of a peaceful electoral process.
He said: “In Kogi state, we know the election is coming up and of course, a lot of people will come out for the challenge. But the reality is that we are on ground.
From within the party to the General election, we are not just talking of victory, we ‘re talking of the margin of the victory of APC over any other party that will come next because of what we have been able to do in the stage delivering on all our promises. “You are going to see election like never before. Kogi election is going to be as smooth as anything and we are very confident of victory.” On whether he was confident of getting the party ticket considering the quality of opposition emerging from within the APC in the state, he said: “where will the ticket go outside myself? On Senator Dino Melaye’s threat to unseat him, he said: “Anytime you talk, we should talk of somebody that is good. Apart from that person, you are talking of, let him justify the mandate given to him by showing his people what he has done. For him to come and challenge me means that he is ready to pass through the eye if the needle.” The governor also thanked “Nigerians for giving Mr. President the mandate for the second time to reposition the country. What he has done in the last four years and what he is going to do in the next four years requires the support of every Nigerian and we are very confident that Mr. President is going to take us to the next level.” Meanwhile, a retired army general, Major-General Patrick Ademu Akpa, has joined the governorship race in Kogi state.
The retired army general said he is in the race following calls from his people to deliver them from bad leadership being perpetuated by the present administration. According to a statement from his media office, the leaders of Kogi state young professional and other cultural bodies in the state made the call during the week.
