Former Abia State Governor and Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, has charged the Federal Government to consult with Nigerians on the controversial plan to establish Fulani Settlements (RUGA) across the country.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, at the weekend, Kalu said the proposal might not be a bad idea but the way it was being presented to Nigerians was defective.
“The Federal Government should always consult widely before putting up a deliberate policy. People in my village in Igbere do not understand what RUGA is. They will be afraid. Some of us are the largest sellers of cattle. I started selling cows as far back as when I was in the university,” he said
“When you talk about RUGA, it is not anything that people should be worried about. In 2001, I established RUGA in Abia. In Okpanta, I built the cattle settlement that sold cows in Umuahia and Aba.
