A 24year-old graduate of Insurance Department, The Polytechnic Ibadan, Olabode Oyaremi was sentenced to four months imprisonment on Monday over impersonation of one America nurse, Angelina Kimberly.
Olabode who was arraigned before Justice Patricia Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Ibadan Judicial Division over one count amendrd charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Office was found guilty.
The graduate of Insurance was taken into custody by EFCC officials on March 23, 2019 at the Kolapo Ishola Estate, Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo state for Internet-related offences.
According to the EFCC, his conducts contravened Section 22 (2) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015, and punishable under Section 22 (2)(b)(iv) of the same Act.
Oyaremi was said to have fraudulently represented himself as Angelina Kimberly, an American nurse, via an e-mail angelinakimberly126@gmail.com.
In line with the terms of the plea bargain agreement he entered into with the EFCC, Oyaremi pleaded guilty to the amended charge.
As a result of the guilty plea, the prosecuting counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi, prayed the court to convict him in accordance with the plea bargain agreement.
Justice Ajoku upheld the prayer and pronounced the convict guilty and sentenced him to four months in prison.
The court also ordered Oyaremi to pay the sum of $3,600 to his victim through the Federal Government as restitution.
The judge also ordered the convict to forfeit his Apple laptop, Toshiba laptop, Samsung Galaxy Luna Pro, iPhone, Nokia phone, Apple watch and Smile 4G Internet modem to the Federal Government, being some of the items he bought with the proceeds of his fraudulent act.
