Ogun State Police Command has arrested three herdsmen suspected to be the killers of a 40 year-old farmer, Rafiu Sowemimo in Adao village, Alabata, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun state.
The 40year-old farmer who was allegedly stabbed in the neck to death by herdsmen on his way to farm on Sunday.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the Police on Monday, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of these suspects.
Oyeyemi named the suspects as Muhammed Adamu, Saliu Ismail and Saliu Adam.
He said, “The arrest of the suspects followed a distress call by some people of Adao village in the Alabata area of the Odeda Local Government Area that some herdsmen, while grazing their cattle entered, the farm of one Rafiu Sowemimo and destroyed some of his crops.”
Oyeyemi added, “The victim thereafter challenged the herders to explain why they destroyed his crops. This led to an altercation between him and the herders, consequent upon which the herdsmen stabbed him to death.
“On receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of operations and that of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to move to the scene and ensure that the culprits were brought to book.
“In compliance with the CP’s directive, the officers led other policemen to the scene and, with information from the natives, arrested the three herders who perpetrated the heinous crime.”
