Mesut Ozil had to run for his life after two gang attackers holding knives tried to carjack him in north London.
In a video of the attack that has been circulated on social media, the Bosnian defender can be seen jumping out of his teammate’s vehicle to confront their pursuers as the German ran for safety in a nearby restaurant in Golders Green.
According to the Mail, staff from local establishments responded to the incident to help drive away from the attackers.
Kolasinac and Ozil had been driving through north London in the midfielder’s car when the two aggressors chased them down on mopeds.
Both were armed and were filmed brandishing knives at Kolasinac in footage of the attack. “Ozil looked absolutely terrified, as anybody would after being chased by men with knives,” a witness told the Mail.
“He looked like he was running for his life. And I suppose he was.”
A spokesperson for Arsenal said:
“We have been in contact with both players and they are fine.”
Kolasinac and Ozil are not the first London-based footballers to be targeted by criminals on the road. In 2016, former West Ham striker Andy Carroll was threatened at gunpoint on his way home from training.
