Two suspected fraudsters who falsified their identities as spiritualists to defraud people were arrested by the Niger state police command.
The suspected fraudsters, Olaiya Ojo , 52 , and Awoyemi Ibrahim , 48 , both from Akure, Ondo State , were arrested by a team of policemen attached to the Maitumbi Division following a tip- off.
It was learnt that the suspects ’ victims were usually people with ailments or those seeking to get rich quick.
Northern City News gathered in Minna on Thursday that the suspects had been engaged in the act for over a decade before their arrest.
One of the suspects, Ojo, said in an interview with reporters that he and his gang members started their trade in Ondo State before they decided to relocate to Niger .
He said , “ We never knew that one day the police will get at us; we are now convinced that we have ruined our lives .
“ We moved from Ondo to Niger State thinking that we could continue our business as usual . ”
The Police Public Relations Officer , Niger State Command, Muhammad Abubakar, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects had confessed to the crime.
He added that the suspects had succeeded in duping many people before their arrest .
According to him , one calabash , one long rubber tube , pieces of white and red clothes and a bell were recovered from the suspects .
Abubakar said the suspects would soon be charged to court .
