Super Eagles captain to the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, John Obi Mikel announced his retirement from the national team. Mikel made the announcement via his Instagram page. Mikel, a Chelsea legend, featured for just two matches against Burundi and Madagascar in the tournament.
Mikel Obi has been without a club since he left Championship club Middlesbrough at the end of the 2018/2019 season.
“A two-year and an additional year agreement was signed with the free captain of the Nigerian national team, John Obi Mikel, to transfer to our club,” Trabzonspor announced in a terse statement.
The former Chelsea midfielder has agreed to a two-year deal, that will keep him at the Medical Park Arena until 2021, with an option for a further year.
Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel has joined the Turkish football side, Trabzonspor. Recall, Mikel announced his retirement from international football after the completion of AFCON 2019 which he didn’t participate fully in, because of injury.
Mikel Obi left the English side, Middlesbrough after a few months to join Trabzonspor.
In a viral video, The Turkish fans are so happy to welcome him to Trabzonspor and they were seeing chanting his name while jubilating with him.
