Tinubu Magistrates’ Court docked a 34-year-old Amos Alabi on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding a man of N1.4 million under the pretext of selling him four plots of land.
The suspect who was charged with fraud later denied the charge.
The Prosecution counsel, Insp. Ben Ekundayo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 7, 2016, June 28, Nov. 14, and Dec. 15, 2017 at Eputu Town, Ibeju Lekki Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant collected N1.4 million from Mr Abu George-Abraham under the pretence of selling him four plots of land.
According to NAN reports, Ekundayo said that a friend introduced the defendant to George-Abraham as a member of the family that owned the land.
He said ‘’Alabi claimed that the family gave him the permission to sell the land and the complainant paid the money on instalment.
‘’When the complainant started working on the land, land grabbers (Omo-onile) came to chase his workers off the land, claiming that the land was not for sale.”
The offences contravened Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015; which carries 15 years imprisonment for obtaining money under false pretences.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. M. Olumide-Fusika granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 16 pending legal advice.
