Rivers State Islamic Leader and Vice – President General of Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Nasir Uhor has debunked the alleged demolition of a mosque by the state government.
In a radio programme closely monitored by journalists on August 31, the Islamic leader stated that the whole world is a Mosque in Islam but admitted that there was no physical structure of a mosque on the disputed land in Rainbow Town in Port Harcourt.
“The insinuation that there is a 10-storey building is not true”, he said.
Recounting how the Rivers State government under Rotimi Amaechi stopped work at the location on two occasions, Uhor maintained that the leadership of the Muslim community in Rivers was not responsible for the falsehood circulating about the disputed land in Rainbow town.
Though admitting that a State High Court ruled that the disputed land belongs to Rivers Government, the Muslim leader however revealed that one Late Chief Amadi who sold the land to them claimed that he inherited it.
Also noting that Rivers State is a Christian dominated state, Uhor said it shouldn’t be used to promote hatred. He urged the state government to embrace dialogue.
