Nine soldiers and an officer have been arrested by the authorities of the Nigerian Army for the killing of five officers of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team on August 6 in Taraba state.
The fate of these arrested officers is yet unknown as they risk death sentence or any punishment recommended by the committee set up by the Defence Headquarters to investigate the killings of the policemen.
They were nabbed on Wednesday after preliminary investigations carried out by the DHQ committee which found them culpable of the cruel act.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the soldiers were moved to Yola headquarters of 23 Brigade under very tight security after they have been detained at the 93 Battalion in Taraba state.
The committee members found the ten guilty out of several soldiers and officers interrogated.
It was gathered that the detained soldiers would remain in Yola pending the recommendation and outcome of the committee’s report which are expected to be made public soon.
There is possibility that the detained soldiers might face another Board of Inquiry (BOI) and later face a General Court Martial (GCM). Detained soldiers who took part in the killing of the policemen would face death while others who were only involved would face any other punishment melted out
