A 35-year-old man identified as Habibu Ibrahim has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for reportedly stabbing his 80-year-old father, Mallam Ibrahim Salihu in Asada Village in Doguwa Local Government Area of the state.
The murder suspect who fled after the incident was later arrested after his brother identified as Yahaya Ibrahim reported the incident to Asada Doguwa Police station on September 15, 2019.
While parading the murder suspect, the Kano state police command spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the incident and disclosed that “in an unprovoked attack that occurred around 1:30am, a 80-year-old man was stabbed and eventually lost his life at about 6:30am of that same day while receiving treatment.
He said that “upon the receipt of the complaint, Officers at the station quickly mobilized and rushed the victim to Doguwa General Hospital to be resuscitated but later passed away in the hospital at about 6:30 am of that same day while receiving treatment.”
“Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect is a drug addict and carried out the heinous crime under the influence of hard drugs.
“The suspect’s relatives made us know that Habibu has been abusing drugs and that has been an issue which consequently led to the death of their father,” he added.
Kiyawa further said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu has directed that the suspect should be transferred to the State Investigation and Intelligence Department (SIID) as soon as a Doctor’s report is ready.
