A social crusader and rights activist has accused the DSS Director General, Yusuf Bichi of promoting a legacy of impunity by refusing to release Sowore as the Department of State Services continues to detain Omoyele Sowore.
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered his release, directing the publisher of Sahara Reporters to deposit his passport at the court’s registry.
Adeyanju said the DSS violated section 35 (1,2,&3 ) of the Nigerian constitution, which stated that every person shall be entitled to his personal liberty and no person shall be deprived of such liberty, by refusing to set Sowore free.
He said, “It is unfortunate that they are setting a bad precedent for generation to come and what is more important is tomorrow.
The Director General of DSS will not be there forever, another person will come and the person will come and inherit the legacy of Impunity.”
However, the Federal High Court, Abuja, has threatened to jail the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, over his refusal to release pro-democracy campaigner and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.
In a “notice of disobedience to order of court” issued by the court on Thursday and addressed to the DSS DG, the Federal High Court directed the boss of the secret police to comply with its directive or face grave consequences, which includes “commitment to prison”.
