Following the BBC undercover series from ‘African Eye’ which exposed Lecturers who sexually harass University girls in West Africa, a Professor at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has thrown his weight behind the embattled Lecturers, as he defends his fellow lecturers.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that BBC sent undercover Journalist posing as Student inside the University of Lagos and University of Ghana to uncover the sex for grade crises in west Africa,in the documentary that was released on Monday, two University senior Lecturers were exposed on tape where they on several occasions harassed young girls. One lecturer from Nigeria and the other from Ghana.
However,a lecturer at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof. Okwechime Emmanuel in a radio interview said ‘society is looking at the situation from one angle’ even as he defends the lecturers’.
The UNIBEN lecturer said some of the female students also sexually harass their lecturers by dressing half-naked to class. According to him, these students want ‘sexually transmitted degree’ (STD) and when some lecturers refuse to agree to their demand they get blackmailed.
Prof. Okwechime disclosed that lecturers are not saints and in any organization where there are adult male and adult female, there is a natural attraction.
