No fewer than 147 inmates have been cleared by the Kaduna State Police Command after they raided a Youth Rehabilitation Centre popularly called Malam Niga’s rehabilitation Centre on Saturday at Rigasa community of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the police stormed the centre located at Kwanar Gurguwa in the community in the early hours and took away the inmates to Mando camp.
The founder of the Centre, Lawal Yusuf Muduru was apprehended during the raid and would be subjected to questioning by the Police while Govenor Nasir El’rufai reportedly witnessed the arrest.
According to reports, a visit to the State Pilgrims Hajj Camp at Mando where the inmates are kept under the care of the state ministry for Human Services and Social Development reported that policemen were stationed at the camp as details of the inmates were taken by officials of the ministry.
While reacting to the development, Hafsat Baba, the Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development who visited the camp disclosed that twenty-two inmates were females while four were foreigners.
She revealed that, “The number of inmates evacuated from the centre were 147 in total, among them are 22 females while four are foreigners from Niger and Cameroon. We also have underage among the inmates and those who are mentally unstable. We have contacted a psychiatric doctor who will come to examine them.”
She added that details of the inmates were taken, stressing that they are waiting for directives from the state government on the next line of action.
Reporters gathered that majority of the inmates are drug addicts who were taken to the centre for rehabilitation and also to learn skill acquisition such as carpentry, welding, computer training, among others.
