31 days after Police freed 300 chained people in Kaduna state, a video of one of the victims who is a PHD holder, imprisoned for two years over rumours of converting to Christianity has emerged.
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that “no fewer than 147 inmates have been cleared by the Kaduna State Police Command after they raided a Youth Rehabilitation Centre popularly called Malam Niga’s rehabilitation Centre on Saturday at Rigasa community of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
The said victim identified as Hassan Yusuf disclosed that he earned his doctorate degree in Economics and spent 16 years in United Kingdom before he decided to got married and raise kids.
His troubles started after his relatives thought that he had become a Christian and converted his children to Christian, so the extended family decided to lock him up at the rehabilitation centre.
While speaking with reporters, Hassan Yusuf disclosed that he has spent 2 years in the centre and what he faced here is very horrible and hectic because he has never witnessed such in his life despite being a former student of a military school.
It is worst because I am a diabetic patient. No drugs and you can’t talk to anyone. There are some small boys here that get us something to chew, soak and drink everyday, he disclosed.
Another victim of the rehabilitation centre who spoke with newsmen identified as Bello Hamzat, a MSC student confirmed the health status of Doctor Hassan and said that he does not know why he was chained.
“They use to hang people and seventeen children just got released, Hamzat revealed.
While reacting to the issues, the Kaduna State Commissoner of Police, Aji Ali Janga disclosed that the owner of the facility told the Police that parents brought kids for rehab.
“We will evacuate everybody to our station, make announcement that parent should come and take their wards. There’s possibility that we will arraign him in court if found guilty.
“Reasonable and right thinking parents will never take their parents there or maybe they don’t know what they are facing there, he said.
