The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 55-year-old suspected drug trafficker for being in possession of 1,072kg of Indian Hemp.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the suspect identified as Umaru Shehu who had just finished a jail term on October 8 was arrested along Mokwa Road in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State owing to intelligence report the agency received for similar offence.
The suspect, Umaru who just finished a jail term for being in possession of 64kg of dried Indian hemp some years ago disclosed that he’s been finding it difficult letting go of the Indian hemp business as it runs in his blood.
“Cannabis business is my blood, it is extremely difficult for me to stop it. When I was embarking on this trip from Lagos to Sokoto, I never knew that the operatives would arrest me in Mokwa, it is my luck” he said.
While reacting to the development, NDLEA’s commander in Niger state, Sylvia Egwunwoke confirmed the arrest and also urged members of the public to join in the effort to stop the distribution and sale of illicit drugs in the state.
