A Nigerian man identified as Mr S. Duduyemi who stood as surety for an accused standing trial over the alleged sharing of the nude video of Hon. Timothy Owoeye, the speaker of Osun state has been remanded on Wednesday by Justice Emmanuel Ayoola of a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, capital of Osun state.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that one of the accused persons identified as Sikiru Ileladewa was said to have jumped bail which led to the arrest of Duduyemi, a principal of a secondary school in the state.
According to reports, the counsel of the accused, Barr. J.P Jones was slammed with a fine of N300,000 by the judge for failing to appear in court.
Recall that the nude video of Owoeye was shared on social media and eight people were arrested in connection with the allegation.
Owoeye was said to be caught in a community, allegedly attempting to bath with blood. But, the speaker claimed he was set up by the defendants.
The court asked that Duduyemi be remanded in Ile-Ife correctional centre pending the perfection of his bail.
The surety was granted bail in the sum of N10million with two sureties.
The court ordered that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler.
Meanwhile, the fined lawyer, Jones, had written the court to adjourn the matter, citing his appearance before a State High court for a murder case.
But, the state prosecutor, Mr. Moses Faremi, frowned at the excuse of the lawyer who he said was in court last week Thursday when the matter was adjourned.
Faremi urged the court to fine the lawyer for stalling the ongoing trial.
Justice Ayoola thereby awarded a fine of N300,000 against the counsel and directed him to pay before the adjournment date.
The judge adjourned the case till Thursday December 12, 2019 for ruling on bail application of the sureties and continuation of trial within trial.
