Tragedy struck in Oyo community as fire razed Akesan Market, the town’s main commercial centre in the early hours of Sunday, January 5th.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that only few shops and a filling station are yet to be affected as at the time of reportage.
A source told newsmen that despite the nearness of Fire Service based in Oyo, they could not mobilise their men to stop the raging fire.
Fire workers said that the equipments were not working properly. So they had to mobilise fire fighters from Ogbomosho town which is kilometres away after a massive damage, source disclosed.
“The failure of the fire service is commendable but it will be treated later.
“However, Ogbomoso fire fighter are currently fighting the fire and we hope it is stopped before further damage.
“We sympathise with our people, particularly men and women trading at Akesan. It is sad way to start the year,” the source added.
