Hours after members of the National assembly and some prominent Nigerians call for the resignation of service chiefs, WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that President Buhari met with the service chiefs in a security council meeting held at the state house in Abuja.
It was further learnt that the meeting started off around 10am and it was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari; Minister of Defense Maj. Gen. Bashir Salihi Mahashi (Rtd.); Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; and the National Security Adviser (NSA) Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (Rtd.) in attendance.
Service Chiefs which include the Chief of Defense Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar; Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rafa’i Abubakar; and the Director-General of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) Yusuf Magaji Bichi are also present.
As at the time of filling this report, the agenda of the meeting is still very unclear but there are speculations that it might be connected to the rising insecurity witnessed across the nation which has endeared the lives of citizens of the country.
It was also speculated that service chiefs may possibly know their fates at the end of meeting as the possibility of some service chiefs taking a bow is high owing to pressures mounted on the presidency to sack them if they fail to resign.
