Two lovers from eastern part of Nigeria, who converted to Islam recently are set to marry in an Islamic ceremony at a Mosque in Owerri, Imo State.
The couples identified as Aishat Ugochi Obi and Nurudeen (Nicholas) Ikeocha will also allow their Igbo culture to reflect in their union.
The marriage will be coming up on Friday, April 10, 2020. Some report has claimed that it would be the first Igbo Islamic marriage in the state.
According to a source, though many think all Igbos are Christians, he is sharing the news to show that it is untrue as there are some who are Muslims.
He wrote,
“There have been this notion that Igbos are all Christians, well I present to you, the first open Igbo Muslim marriage. Igbos are known to be very accommodating.
“Many have had this erroneous belief that Igbos don’t have Muslim brethren but in fact, many Igbos have heard many positions in the Islamic arena,” he said.
The user went on to list the names of other Igbo Muslims who are well known in society.
“We have the likes of Sheikh Abdullahi Adam Idoko, who is the Chief Imam of University of Nigeria Nsukka. Ustaz Christian Isah Okonkwo, who was made the Chief Imam of University of Ibadan in the 1980s, Alhaji Abudulaziz Chibuzo Ude, who is the founder of Nok Publishers and First African editor at Double Day,” he added.
