In bid of enforcing the COVID-19 lockdown directives by the Federal and State government, men of the Delta State Police command have arrested three clergymen in Warri area of the state Sunday, April 12, for holding Easter services which had over 100 congregants.
The affected churches are St James Anglican Church, Ojabugbe, All Saints Anglican Church, Airport Road and Christ For the World Mission, Daudu Street.
Two of the Pastors arrested alongside 20 others however insisted that their services were not held to full capacity.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa accused the church leaders of exposing their members to possible danger following the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country. The Pastors who flouted the state government’s order, will be arraigned in court for noncompliance.
Inuwa said;
“It is confirmed. Three pastors were arrested for assembling congregations of over 100 each, in fact, for exposing the lives of their congregations to danger. In spite of the lockdown directives given by the governments. As I speak with you, they are being detained.”
