Kebbi has recorded the first COVID-19 case.
It came from the 13 samples sent to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Abuja for testing.
Governor Atiku Bagudu announced this while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
He said the patient has been moved to the isolation centre while a team of medical experts are working to trace his contacts.
The Governor said the patient is a 40- year- old with a travel history to Lagos.
Bagudu urged residents to observe precaution measures against COVID-19, including washing of hands, social distancing and use of face masks.
He told them not to panic adding the Task Force was up to the task of containing the pandemic.
With the development, NCDC on Sunday announced the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to be 1273.
NCDC tweet read, “43-Lagos, 8-Sokoto, 6-Taraba,5-Kaduna, 5-Gombe, 3-Ondo, 3-FCT, 3-Edo, 3-Oyo, 3-Rivers, 3-Bauchi, 2-Osun, 1-Akwa Ibom, 1-Bayelsa, 1-Ebonyi and 1-Kebbi State.
“As at 11:50pm 26th April- 1273 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria.
“Discharged: 239, deaths, 40.”
