Following the arrest of the owner of Star Shawarma and other staff over disagreement, an EFCC staff in Makurdi, the capital of Benue state has been accused of harassment and abuse of power for effecting the arrest.
The anti-graft agency staff identified as Hembafan Toryila reportedly made a purchase worth N1,500 at Star Shawarma and transferred 1,600 Naira to the business’ account.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the business owners didn’t notice the alert on time and they kept contacting her about making payment.
According to report, the business owners called to apologise after noticing the payment she made but the EFCC staff would not forgive easily allegedly vowed to deal with them.
The EFCC staff allegedly mobilised uniformed men to the eatery and arrested the owner and staff on Wednesday.
Following their arrest, the staff were reportedly detained at EFCC office in Makurdi.

A video of the arrest has been shared online. Also, a photo of the charge sheet has been shared. It shows that the owner of the eatery has been charged with “attempted fraud.”
Facebook and Twiter users have criticized this move and asked why the EFCC is involved in such a frivolous issue.
