Some aggrieved youths have reportedly blocked Benin-Ugbowo Lagos road over alleged police extortion in Edo state
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the aggrieved youths stormed Benin-Ugbowo Lagos road to express their grievances over illegal arrests and intimidations which eventually resulted into gridlock.
The aggrieved youths who are residents of Aibalagbe street, opposite evidence of the gospel church on Benin-Lagos Express road were reportedly begged by police officers who visited the scene of the protest but they declined and insisted that they would not leave the protest ground if the police refuse to release two young men they allegedly arrested.
The protesters were later dispersed by some security officers.
Reacting on the development, the Police Public Relations in the state, Chidi Nwabuzor said the command is not aware of such allegation raised by the protesters and advised the protesters to channel their complains through proper mediums to the Edo State Commissioner for police.
We should not allow them to take laws into their hands and they should not have barricaded the road because the road is for all not for them alone.
