Following the arrest of Ms Mnena Ato, owner of Star Shawarma by an anti-graft agency staff in Makurdi, Benue state over wrongful transfer of money, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has announced the commencement of thorough investigations into the issue.
Recall that some days ago,an EFCC staff identified as Hembafan Toryila in Makurdi, was accused of harassment and abuse of power after he effected the arrest of Ms Mnena Ato following a purchase he made, worth N1,500 at Star Shawarma and transferred 1,600 Naira to the business’ account, but according to reports, the business owners didn’t notice the alert on time and they kept contacting her about making payment.
The business owners called to apologise after noticing the payment she made but the EFCC staff would not forgive easily allegedly vowed to deal with them.
The EFCC staff allegedly mobilised uniformed men to the eatery and arrested the owner and staff on Wednesday. Following their arrest, the staff were reportedly detained at EFCC office in Makurdi.
Today, EFCC through his official Instagram handle announced that the agency is set to begin a thorough investigation into the arrest of Ms Mnena Ato by their staff.
