The chairman Jigawa State Task Force committee on COVID-19 and Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Abba Zakari Umar has said that the state has recorded 51 new COVID-19 confirmed cases.
The chairman made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen at the NYSC orientation camp where over 1,100 Almajirai returnees from other states camped.
He said, “With this, the state now has a total number of 169 COVID-19 confirmed cases.”
According to him, 31 of the COVID-19 cases are almajirai that were repatriated from Kano State, which accounts for 56 per cent of the total COVID-19 cases recorded in the state.
The commissioner noted that the state would soon start testing in the state. He stated that the state government has already procured the equipment and has approved the use of the Dutse General Hospital laboratory as a COVID-19 testing centre.
He added that the government decided to use the laboratory to test for diseases such as Lassa fever, Ebola and the like after COVID-19.
Umar stated further that “as you aware that last week we procured three additional ambulances, four ventilators and the necessary working materials aimed at ensuring successful fight against the disease.”
