Nothing much has been heard of Nigerian power house singer, Chidinma Ekile aka Mis Kedike as regards music of recent, as the Igbo born beauty is slowly fizzling into oblivion.
The “Kedike” crooner is well known for her sonorous voice and regular dropping of banging hot singles, but these days, her music barely goes viral. Well maybe it’s because her “Retweet this with this hash tag” or “what will 5k do for you, reply with this hash tag” tweets go viral than her songs.
Chidinma went into limelight after winning the popular “MTN Project fame” in 2010. A music reality show by telecoms giant MTN. She was exceptional in the show and went away with the grand prize. She further won a lot of hearts after she released a hit single “Kedike”.
Following the release of the music video for her “Emi Ni Baller” single, she became the first female musician to peak at number 1 on the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 chart. She released other hit singles like: Jankolikolikoko and others.
It came as a surprise to all when all of a sudden her verified twitter page started tweeting with hash tags urging followers to re tweet with and comment with same hash tags for some amount of money – A normal thing most “twitter influencers do”. When it comes to music, Chidinma is not as ‘hot’ as she used to be. The Chidinma we used to know would have released a jaw dropping album by now, but it appears like she is slowly losing her “juice”.
However, Miss KDK as she is fondly called came out of recent to debunk tweets from the account claiming it was hacked after lots of backlash and reactions from people. The “influencer-like” tweets of the account have recently been deleted (a sign she has regained her account, if truly it was hacked, as personally I think there is nothing wrong with trying to have other sources of income)
Chidinma recently released a single with fellow crooner Flavor named: “Iyawo mi” and truthfully speaking, it struggled to get 1million views on YouTube! Is this a sign that she should completely abandon singing for Twitter influencing as she obviously did better at that? What do you think?
About Chidinma
Chidinma Ekile was born in Ketu, Kosofe, Lagos State, to parents originating from Imo State. She is the sixth of seven children. Chidinma grew up with a disciplinarian father and began singing at the age of six. When she was 10 years old, she joined her church’s choir. Chidinma attended primary and secondary school in Ketu before relocating to Ikorodu with her family.
She worked as a business promoter in Lagos prior to auditioning for the third season of Project Fame West Africa. Chidinma wanted to study mass communication but ended up attaining a sociology degree from the University of Lagos. Chidinma initially declined her admission to the University of Lagos due to her advancement in Project Fame West Africa. In an interview with YNaija, she said she has always taken school seriously and her decision to enroll at Unilag was inevitable. She also said music wasn’t always on her agenda, but decided to give it a try after winning the music competition.
After dying her hair red and getting a mohawk, people started perceiving her as a good girl gone bad. In an interview posted on the Daily Independent website, Chidinma said she is still the same and that she’s evolving and growing as a musician.
