Kannywood actress, Rukayya Umar, has advised that the identities of rape victims should be concealed in order to protect them from stigmatisation in the future.
The Kano-born movie star gave the advise during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) published on Tuesday.
“I don’t know what the law says about that but it is very disturbing as it makes the victims vulnerable to stigma.
“I saw a three-year-old girl being raped and her mother was interviewed over the issue on a video clip. I am sure the young girl will not like that when she grows up,” she said.
The actress, who is popularly known as Dawayya, also advised fathers to do as much as they can to ensure the protect and provide for their children.
In other news, Police in Sierraleone have arrested a mother and her son after the son allegedly raped his two young cousins living with them which led to the death of one of the girls.
