D’banj sues rape accuser, Seyitan Babatayo for N1.5 billion

Popular Nigerian singer, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has again sued his rape accuser, Seyitan Babatayo for ₦1.5 billion.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that D’banj had in an initial lawsuit, demanded ₦100m and a public apology from Seyitan Babatayo for “defamation of character” after she accused him of rape and demanded an apology through her lawyers.

So much has happened over the past few weeks after Seyitan came out to accuse DBanj of raping her in 2018.

The singer denied the accusation and sued her for ₦100m. However, a few days later they were reports of D’banj with the help of some police officers detained Seyitan and coercing her to retract her accusations.

The move led to massive backlash from Nigerians on social media on D’banj and his team; which prompted the IGP to order an investigation into the case.

Popular Social media influencer, Segalink released a statement earlier noting that the lady is under some form of strain which is evident from the inconsistencies in her statements.

Segalink also advised Dbanj’s team to stay put and desist from reacting to anything online. However, his advice happens to have fallen on deaf ears as D’banj has reacted in an apparently, unusual way.

D’banj, through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome Chambers, has asked Seyitan Babatayo to pay ₦1.5 billion.

₦1billion was demanded in damages “over the untold embarrassment, derision, public ridicule, odium, obloquy, marital disharmony, mental agony and psychological trauma which the Defendants’ tweets and publication have caused the claimant.”

The remaining ₦500 million was demanded as “aggravated, punitive, and exemplary damages.”

In addition to the monetary aspect of the suit, the singer also demanded that Seyitan writes D’banj “a letter of unreserved apology for the offensive tweets and posts”.

Also, D’banj’s lawyers also entreated the court to confer “an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from further publishing, tweeting or posting offensive libellous statements.”

Below are documents from D’banj’s lawyers demanding ₦1.5 billion from Seyitan.
