I’ve resumed as UNILAG acting VC, says Prof Theophilus Soyombo

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos(UNILAG), Akoka, Professor Theophilus Soyombo, said he has resumed office.

Soyombo said on Friday that he resumed office because the letter of appointment given to him by the Council notified him to do so with immediate effect.

Mr Soyombo, a professor of sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the university, was appointed on Thursday morning by the governing council of the university following termination of the appointment of Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe by the same counsel at its emergency meeting in Abuja, on Wednesday.

When asked for his reaction on the event that led to his emergence, he said he would talk about that much later

However, other things being equal, Soyombo would be in the Senate Building on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Universities (CVC) has condemned the removal of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (Unilag), Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, without due process.

The committee also condemned appointment of an acting vice chancellor for the university outside the university’s three deputy Vice-Chancellors.
