Following the gruesome murder of a 19-year-old girl idenitifed as Miss Chinenye Promise Nwoye, her parents identified as Mr. and Mrs. Chukwunonso Chinyere Nwoye of Ihuokpala Village Abba Town in Dunukofia LGA of Anambra State have appealed to Governor Willie Obiano and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to intervene and ensure that the Anambra State Police Command arrests and prosecute people behind the killing.
Recall that the deceased, Promise Nwoye who is an undergraduate of University of Benin was murdered inside a hotel, “Akuu Hotel Abagana,” located at the boundary between Eziowelle and Abagana, a short distance to the popular Oye- Agu Market Abagana.
According to Mrs. Chinyere Nwoye, the mother of the deceased, her daughter Promise was lured out from Oye-agu market area where she was undergoing computer lesson to the said hotel and wickedly strangled to death.
Mrs. Nwoye added that before she died she had called her to tell her to quickly bring her ATM Pin telling her in a jiffy that she was at Akuu hotel.
She narrated that she quickly chartered an Okada together with a Christian brother to the hotel while crying hysterically.
She noted that when she arrived that it was the noise she made that made the hotel management to listen to her as they were not ready to listen to her adding that because of her cry they went upstairs to the one of the rooms and discovered the strangled body of her daughter.
Speaking with newsmen, the manager of the hotel identified as Mr. Philip Bata who is a Tiv confirmed the story of the deceased’s mother.
Bata said the hotel security succeeded in arresting one of the suspects and has handed him over to the Police.
The hotel manager added that the police are handling the matter.
Newsmen closely observed that the hotel is being patronised by all manners of strange young men who are taking advantage of security lapses in the hotel.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Abagana Police Division did not pick his call.
A senior police officer who refused to reveal his name said that they had made some arrests and have transferred the case to the state Police headquarters for further actions.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Haruna Mohammed said he was yet to get report of the matter as he had been busy working on the current Nationwide Police recruitment for Community Policing and promised to call back after obtaining details of the matter.
