'He's a phone repairer, not a fraudster', Family of youth labelled Yahoo Boy and chased to death cries out

Violent protest of that occurred on Tuesday continued to Wednesday as youths in Ofatedo continue to storm the streets in mass, demanding justice for the death of a young man named Idris Ajibola, who was chased to death by officers of a Joint Task Force (JTF) along Ofatedo/Ido road in Ososogbo, the Osun State Capital.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the family of the deceased on Wednesday charged the Police to produce officers allegedly involved in the act and bring them to justice as they also called on the state government to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet.

The family also cleared the air on insinuations that their son is a suspected internet fraudster as widely reported on social media and news that reported the incident. The maternal uncle of Idris, Mr Damilare Opadotun said their son was an apprentice, learning mobile phone repair before the gory incident. “He’s a phone engineer, who just returned from Lagos state on Monday”, he said.

Aggrieved youths set a bonfire and mounted barricades, thus preventing vehicular movement in and out of the Ido-Osun and Ofatedo axis. They decried what they termed bizarre manner policemen harass young boys and students over suspicion of being internet fraudsters.

The youth blocked roads entering Ofatedo and Ido-Osun early morning to denounce the death of Idris, adding that they were dispersed by anti-riot policemen, who fired teargas canisters at them.

The state Commissioner of Police Commissioner, Undie Adie, who addressed a press conference sued for calm, disclosing that the police had constituted an independent investigation team to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
