Thousands of #EndSARS protesters stormed the streets of Osogbo, the capital of Osun state on Monday evening to hold a candle light procession for the victims who lost their lives in the recent attack in the state.
This candlelight procession happened barely 48 hours after the Osun state governor and his convoy were attacked by hoodlums which created tension and fear in the state.
Recall that the protesters on Saturday afternoon gathered at Olaiya junction, the same spot at which Governor Oyetola and his retinue of aides were attacked by suspected political thugs and hoodlums.
According to the Osun police report, two persons were reported to have died in the pandemonium.
The protesters held a candle light procession in honour of some youths that died during the protest last week and visited the home of one of youths who died on Saturday identified as Mutiu.
However, commercial activities were paralyzed as traders hurriedly shut their shops at the sight of protesters at the popular Olaiya junction.
Addressing fellow youths, one of the protesters identified as Olawale Bakare, popularly known as ‘Mandate said they would continue to storm the streets in protest against police brutality and bad governance.
Bakare said they were agitating for better future for Nigerian youths and that they wouldn’t want to be cheated again.
He said, “every resident of the state should join this movement. Shortly, we are going to be shutting down the economy and commercial activities of this state. We want better future for ourselves because we don’t want to be cheated again.
“All of us are responsible citizens of this country. Because we want freedom for ourselves, because we want equity and justice, we want justice for ourselves, we want good governance for ourselves, that is why we are doing this (protest).
“We want everyone to join us, we want reversal of electricity tariffs, all schools, primary, secondary and tertiary will be shut,” he added.
