Yesterday, video showing protesters at the Lagos residence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor of the state went viral but the said video is false.
The former governor of the state and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu is rumoured to have a stake in the Lekki Concession Company, the firm managing the Lekki tollgate where #EndSAR protesters were shot at on Sunday.
In the viral video, protesters can be seen chanting songs against police brutality as part of an ongoing nationwide protest against the sceurity
One of the agitators is seen with a placard that reads: “We want a better Nigeria; no to oppression.”
Reports revealed that the video has been shared widely by a former presidential spokesperson.
Meanwhile, investigations have shown that the video is neither of Tinubu’s residence nor is it from Nigeria.
According to TheCable who ran a google reverse image search of the thumbnail images from the clip, it showed pictures of the Nigerian high commission in Pretoria, South Africa.
The visible residential number — 971 — on the building captured in the video is that of the high commission which a google map shows is located at 971 Schoeman Street, Arcadia, Pretoria.
A street view of the location also captures the trees and buildings within the area as those seen in the viral video.
Tinubu’s Lagos residence, located along Bourdillon road in Ikoyi, is clearly different from the structure in the video.
