As the #EndSARS protest continues nationwide, so too are rumours and misinformation about issues, this time as it relate to Revered Father Ejike Mbaka, a prominent Catholic priest in Enugu state.
Contrary to a viral video suggesting that the Catholic Adoration Ground Enugu, superintended by Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka was razed by protesting youths, the news is completely not true.
Earlier today, social media users began to share a video which they claimed showed the prayer ground of the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN) being set ablaze.
The video quickly went viral generating a lot of engagement. A check by WITHIN NIGERIA has shown that the claims are false.
Moreover, Mbaka’s spokesman, Mr Maximus Ugwoke who spoke with newsmen said the story and video making the rounds were false and should be disregard.
He said he suspected the story emanated from an online media practitioner based in Enugu whom he said has written a rebuttal and asked people to ignore the mischief.
Ugwoke promised to make an official statement on the issue after consultation with the priest.
Meanwhile, a search on YouTube revealed the original version of the video where it was uploaded on Thursday by EVideos TV, the clip also seems to have been recorded in Enugu state, as a person can be heard saying;
“Enugu north is on fire. Who say people no go protest,” suggesting it was a recent event that took place amid the #EndSARS protests.
A reverse Google image search of the thumbnail images from the clip, also showed pictures similar to that of Enugu north LGA headquarters located at 45 Okpara Ave, GRA, though we could not ascertain if that structure was caught in flames recently.
