Amid the many reactions to the 2021 Grammy nominations, music lovers called the Recording Academy out for snubbing artists like The Weeknd and Brandy. Also fans noticed Cardi B’s name was missing from the list of nominees, but the Bronx rapper confirmed she’s the reason why.

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper took to Instagram Live following the announcement of the candidates for the 2021 Grammy Awards. She then explained to fans that she purposely didn’t submit “WAP” for Grammy consideration, adding she doesn’t want any of her music to be considered until her album is complete.

Cardi said: ‘Stop playing with me. Like I said, I never pressed for a Grammy, but y’all are not gonna take away something that I know that I worked my ass off that I deserve.

‘If I was pressed for a Grammy I would have submitted WAP for this year. I didn’t submit. I didn’t want to be submitted to award shows until I put out my album because I think my album is so good, and it means something and I worked on it a lot. I’ve been working on it for almost two years.

‘Some songs are so emotional to me because I did them during quarantine. I’m not pressed or nothing, I’m not gonna keep doing this s**t constantly because y’all are upset. Y’all cannot take my success.’

WAP proved to be controversial when it was released due to its explicit sexual lyrics.

Cardi has received a total of eight nominations since the start of her rap career. Last year, her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, took home the award for Best Rap Album.

Despite her decision not to submit “WAP,” the song helped her win Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song at the AMAs, making her the first artist in history to win the category twice.

Every year, the Grammy nominations are met with mixed reactions from those excited to receive Grammy nods and others who feel they were snubbed. Tuesday (Nov. 24) was no different.

Among the many people who thought they were robbed was Teyana Taylor who called the Grammy Awards out for failing to include women in the category for Best R&B Album.

“Y’all was better off just saying best MALE R&B ALBUM cause all I see is dick in this category,” she wrote on Twitter.
