The Governing Council of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) in Nasarawa has announced the appointment of Prof. Shehu Abdur-Rahman as the third vice chancellor.
This was disclosed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Emeritus Professor Munzali Jibril. He said: “The appointment followed a painstaking selection process. We hope the appointee will justify the confidence reposed in him by sustaining the peace and development the university is known for.”
Before his appointment, Prof. Abudur-Rahman was the director, Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (CARD) and dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University of Lafia. He was the vice chancellor, Federal University, Gashua, Yobe State.
Abdur-Rahman also served as the dean, Faculty of Agriculture, in Nasarawa State University, Keffi, (NSUK), as well as the deputy vice chancellor.
Abdur-Rahman is a professor of Agriculture Economics and Extension.
He hails from Umaisha, in Toto Local Government of Nasarawa State. The newly-appointed VC will take over from Prof. Muhammad Sanusi Liman in February.
Nasarawa State House of Assembly Speaker Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi has congratulated Prof. Abdur-Rahman.
A statement by the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Jibrin Gwamna, said the appointment was well deserved, considering his experience in the academic circle.
Abdullahi, while underscoring the humane, zeal, sincerity and track records of the don, urged him to bring to bear his knowledge and build on his reputation.
Wishing him God’s guidance and protection in his new assignment, Abdullahi, who represents Umaisha/Ugya Constituency, said he is optimistic that Prof. Abdur-Rahman would consolidate the achievements of his predecessors and transform the institution to a world-class university.
